Educational Activities of Massoud Foundation
We all know that
education, as the foundation stone, has played an important role in the formation
of civilizations throughout the history.
Elementary education,
the secondary, the high school, the vocational, and the higher education are the
main pillars of progress and development in the developed as well as in the developing
countries.
The level of education
in
Afghanistan
, prior to Soviet invasion, was quite compatible with the level of education in
the region.
Our students used
to be acceptable to register in foreign universities without any reservations. But
due to imposed and internal wars, out educational infrastructures were either completely
destroyed or seriously damaged and the education cycle of our youth was disrupted
in
Afghanistan
. This disruption became more serious when it was coupled with the repeated displacements
of families from one place to another place. War horrors were unbearable, and the
families had to move from one place to another or from one country to another and
the youth were unable, due to repeated displacements, to continue their education
in a systematic way.
Talibans also have
had their impact on the deterioration of the education system in Afghanistan, as
they openly denied the girls to go to school and the women to go to work and sometimes
they have put the girls’ schools on fire.
With the establishment
of the Islamic Republic Government in
Afghanistan
, the reconstruction and the renovation of schools re- started country wide. But
little attention was paid to children who had lost their parents during the catastrophic
wars and became orphans.
These deprived
children could not afford to go to school due to the low- income level of their
families. It was at this stage that Massoud foundation launched its first education
program along with its other humanitarian assistances.
Muslim Ladies School of Australia-Afghanistan
Massoud foundation,
in 2007 launched its education platform for the inclusion of orphans (boys &
girls) in the education system of the country and established this private school
to tackle the job of educating the orphans as well as those children who belonged
to low- income families.
Now there is a
hostel which provides dormitory facilities and there is a school which offers education
opportunities for the orphans and the poor.
The school provides
free transportation, books and supplies, tea-break servicing and uniforms. So far,
we have covered 150 orphans in this privately founded school.
In this school,
we follow the curricula which are approved by the Ministry of Education, as this
is the condition under which the private schools will be allowed to operate.
In addition to
this curriculum we have made English and Computer as compulsory courses for all
students from grade (1) to (8) to further strengthen the student’s educational background
and educate them according to modern time’s requirements.
Short- Term Training Courses in (12) Provinces:
Similarly, there
are thousands of students in (34) provinces of Afghanistan where education cycle
have been disrupted by wars and subsequent displacements.
Again the Massoud
foundation has conducted Short- Term Training Courses in both physical and social
sciences including English and computer courses.
The students receive
training from experienced teachers and scholars who have rich background and experience
in their respective schools and universities.
These Short- Term
Training Courses are tailored for the most deprived and vulnerable students who
have no access to educational opportunities and formal facilities to enable them
pass the universities entrance examinations and consequently follow further specialized
training in the fields they are interested in.
So far we have
provided educational facilities for thousands of students who, after
their graduation have occupied responsible positions in governmental as well
as in private enterprises and institutions. These Short- Term Courses are conducted
by the provincial branches of the Massoud foundation under the guidance of the education
department of (ME) in Kabul, Parwan, Baghlan, Takhar, Mazar –e Sharif, Herat, Kunduz,
Panjshir, Samangan, Khulm, Ghazni and Faryab provinces of Afghanistan.
We are planning
to extend these Short- Term Training Courses to other (22) Provinces in order to
accommodate the remaining deprived youth under our educational umbrella.
